We are very proud and privileged to have some of the most talented and experienced brewers in South Africa. Our brewers at Newlands Brewery bring over 150 years of collective brewing experience from around the world, ensuring that only the finest beer is enjoyed from every keg, bottle or can.

Cobus always wanted to be a Brewer and believes that brewing beer is as much fun as it is hard work. “Watching the hard work culminate into something tangible – that can be felt, smelt, tasted and most importantly of all enjoyed is very rewarding.”

He holds a B.Sc (Biochemistry) and MDP through Stellenbosch University and is currently studying towards his Master Brewer. When he doesn’t have his nose in a book, he can be found out socialising with friends!

Even though Reto, a 4th generation brewer, has “retired” from Newlands after 35 years service, he can still be found taking tours, hosting food & beer pairing evenings and imparting his knowledge to the guys on the floor.

Marna has been brewing beer since 2001 and was part of the 2010 Castle Milk Stout International Monde Selection award-winning brewing team.

A huge fan of rock 'n roll & the blues, catch her supporting SA music at "Up the Creek".

Lindsey’s love affair with brewing began after a visit to the Brewery when she was studying for her BTech (Chemical Engineering). During her 10 years with SAB, Lindsey has held a variety of roles (including being on shift for the filtering of the last Lion).

Lindsey is huge animal lover, especially big dogs!

A qualified wine biotechnologist from Stellenbosch University, Julriech worked in the wine industry before joining the world of beer brewing in 2001.

Julriech loves nature and enjoys DIY projects - not surprisingly, making beer the natural way somehow appeals to his sensibilities…

Denis holds an international diploma in brewing from The Institute of Brewing & Distilling and a B.Sc Honours degree in Biochemistry.

Denis began brewing in 1988 and is the 33rd individual to become an SAB Legend, in recognition of his exceptional achievements and contribution. Denis is a keen surfer and enjoys pairing food & beer.

Robert started brewing in 1997 and holds a list of degrees, diplomas and qualifications, but topping the list is his international diploma in brewing from The Institute of Brewing & Distilling.

When he is not brewing beer or studying, Robert loves to crack a few jokes.

Hari began his journey with SAB as a bursar, before being offered a technical traineeship in the Brewing department. He considers being called a SAB Brewer an honour and something he will always cherish.

He is an avid sports fan especially Football, Rugby and Cricket and a Die-hard supporter of the Sharks and Arsenal.
